Lackawanna County “Green Event” takes next step to become annual signature event.
Re:Cycle on Adams Block Party is a “green-minded” block party dedicated to the local community, sustainability and promoting alternative transportation.
It grew out of Lackawanna County Bike and Scooter Festival held in August of 2008 and event which focused on promoting alternative transportation. There were other green vendors and organizations at the Bike and Scooter Festival including Green Being, an environmentally friendly shop featuring clothing, accessories and handmade items by Pennsylvania designers owned by Cristin Powers.
Ms. Powers felt the event had the potential to expand, involve more of the community and become and annual event. She approached Lackawanna County Deputy Director of Arts and Culture, Maureen McGuigan, about helping with the festival the following year. Cristin became the chair of the event and RE:Cycle on Adams was launched.

The goals were to expand the event to promote all the facets of sustainability and involved more of the community. This year’s event has already surpassed the vendors to participate from last year and with five weeks still left it is anticipated to showcase over 30 vendors at attract over 1,000 attendees.
Time is running out to be a sponsor or exhibitor at the event so register today and take advantage of the entire good “green” PR that comes with these events.
Lackawanna County Commissioners Michael J. Washo, Corey D. O’Brien and A.J. Munchak have made sustainability and being green a major platform in their administration which is why Lackawanna County is happy to sponsor the RE:Cycle on Adams event. This is evident by the recycling programs and “new” programs that have been appearing on the County’s web site over the last year. The County of Lackawanna Transit (COLTS) is purchasing hybrid buses and putting bike racks on all new buses. Efforts have been made to be more energy efficient in County buildings.
Being “green” is critical to help the NEPA region grow in the right direction and there leaders creating and promoting some “good green news” in your community. GreenNEPA is about “good green news” and this event is exactly what we love to support, so any business, organization or sponsor who participates in the recycleadams event automatically will be designated as a GreenNEPA Steward and we will post their name and provide a link to them on the GreenNEPA.com web site exposing their leadership to over 5,000 visitor on a monthly basis.
